Audacity 3.7 Released: Enhancing Linux Compatibility for Open-Source Audio Editing
Today marks Audacity 3.7 Released, an open-source digital audio editor and recording software, which serves as a bugfix update while the development team diligently prepares for the forthcoming major release, Audacity 4.0.
Arriving three and a half months after Audacity 3.6, Audacity 3.7 brings enhancements aimed at improving compatibility with Linux systems. Audacity 3.7 Released, this includes resolutions for issues related to the AppImage bundle on Linux Mint 22 and Arch Linux, as well as fixes for challenges encountered when building Audacity on Arch Linux.
This version also makes several improvements, such as enhancing contrast in the light theme, refining the handling of non-standard characters for cloud saving, expediting startup times on systems with numerous audio devices, improving the importing process for Opus files via the libopus library, and changing the name of the “Insane” option to “Excessive” in MP3 exports.
Additionally, Audacity 3.7 Released update addresses multiple bugs from earlier versions, enhancing database compacting, multi-view functionality, the VST presets path on macOS, the cancellation of stereo tracks during operations, and the pasting of audio clips while the “editing clips can move other clips” option is active.
The latest update addresses a crash issue that occurred when a project was closed after toggling the real-time effect stack. Additionally, Audacity 3.7 updates the “Split cut/delete” option, now referred to as “Cut/delete and leave gap.” It also introduces the ability to undo actions related to adding, removing, replacing, and reordering effects.
