The June 2024 ISO snapshot of Arch Linux is now ready for download, featuring the Linux kernel 6.9. This snapshot is ideal for those looking to install the renowned rolling-release distribution on new machines.
The Arch Linux 2024.06.01 snapshot is notable for being the first to include the new Linux 6.9 kernel series by default, enhancing hardware detection capabilities across both new and older devices where previous versions may have faced detection issues.
This version, Arch Linux 2024.06.01, operates with the default Linux kernel 6.9.3. This particular kernel was introduced into Arch Linux’s stable repositories a few weeks earlier, allowing existing users who continuously update their systems to already benefit from this update. Moreover, the ISO includes all package updates from May 2024.
Furthermore, the June 2024 release of Arch Linux features the latest Archinstall 2.8 installer, launched on April 15, 2024. This new version of the installer offers enhancements such as expanding the ESP system partition default size to 1 GB to avoid space shortages, improvements in microcode management, and introduces a udev synchronization step before labeling block devices to streamline the auto-partitioning process.
The Archinstall 2.8 installer has been updated with new features, including a helpful guide on resizing the booted ISO root partition, capability to set a keyboard layout during minimal installation, transition from the weekly official to the daily official image, improved display of installed packages across all profile submenus, and various bug fixes addressing issues with Btrfs mount options, GRSaf boot directory, fstab line endings, testing repository activation, custom mirrors configuration, and the positioning and dimensioning of the /home partition.
Arch Linux 2024.06.01 is now available for download from the official website. This release is solely intended for new installations, as current Arch Linux users can maintain their systems updated by executing the sudo pacman -Syu
command in their preferred terminal emulator.
