A Comprehensive Review on the Inland Performance Plus 2TB NVMe SSD

Deluxe company -

Today’s focus is on the Inland Performance Plus 2TB NVMe SSD. In the past, I’ve reviewed several Inland drives, including the TD510 Gen5 drive. As a rule, I’m consistently impressed by the value for money these Inland drives offer. The Performance Plus 2TB, our subject for today, isn’t exactly the latest model, but considering many users prefer sticking with high-performance Gen 4 drives rather than transitioning early to Gen 5, we thought it is worth examining.

Inland Performance Plus 2TB PCIe Gen4 NVMe SSD

The Inland Performance Plus 2TB is conveniently designed in a dual-sided M.2 2280 (80mm) form factor.

Internally, the drive is outfitted with a Phison PS5018-E18 controller, which is quite a high-end PCIe Gen 4 controller. I have encountered it multiple times on other drives like the AORUS 7000s and the FireCuda 530. This PS5018 controller can work in tandem with a myriad of NAND types, and today we are inspecting its pairing with the 112-layer Toshiba BiCS5 TLC. Past reviews hint that this drive was previously fitted with a 96-layer Micron TLC NAND, indicating the likelihood of at least two variations existing in the market. Alongside our NAND, there’s a DDR4 DRAM cache.

The Inland Performance Plus 2TB seems to feature only half the cache and half the NAND when observed from the rear.

Specificities of Inland Performance Plus 2TB SSD

The offerings of the Inland Performance Plus 2TB span across a range from 1TB all the way to 8TB capacities. These variants can either come equipped with a heatsink or without it.

Despite its commendable chunky storage capacities, the 2TB model does fall slightly short in terms of sequential performance specifications when compared to some of the fastest Gen 4 drives. With a 7400 MB/s sequential read and 6850 MB/s sequential write speed, it still can’t fully tap into the theoretical potential of a Gen 4 drive. However, the drive impresses with its endurance, rated at 1400 TBW, surpassing the expected 600 TBW per 1TB of capacity. Further sweetening the deal, Inland provides a 6-year warranty on this drive, a pleasant surprise above the customary 5-year industry standard warranty.

CrystalDiskInfo can give us some basic information about the SSD and confirms we are operating at PCIe 4.0 x4 speeds using NVMe 1.4.

Test System Configuration

We are using the following configuration for this test:

  • Motherboard: MSI MAG X670E Tomahawk
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 7900X (12C/24T)
  • RAM: 2x 16GB DDR5-6000 UDIMMs

Our testing utilizes the Inland Performance Plus 2TB as the system’s boot drive, placed in the M.2_1 slot on the motherboard. This particular slot is capable of supporting up to PCIe Gen 5 x4. The drive is loaded to 85% of its capacity with data, after which some data is deleted, leaving approximately 60% of used space on the volume.

Next, we are moving on to the performance testing phase.
