Jerry Huang from Microsoft announced that beginning with the installation media refreshed post-June 2025, users will have access to the newest versions of various apps right from the start. No immediate updates from the Microsoft Store will be necessary, contributing to a more secure and user-friendly experience on first use.
The include list of apps is extensive and covers essential applications like Alarms & Clock, Calculator, Microsoft Store, Photos, Snipping Tool, and more. For Windows Server 2025, the list is slightly shorter, focusing mainly on App Installer and Windows Security.
The rationale behind this upgrade is primarily security-oriented. Keeping in-box apps updated minimizes vulnerabilities associated with outdated versions. This initiative aims to establish a more secure baseline configuration from the get-go.
Beyond security, this enhancement streamlines the installation process for advanced users who frequently reinstall Windows. It saves time and bandwidth, allowing users to start with the latest features without having to manually update each application post-installation.
For those using Microsoft’s Media Creation Tool, it’s recommended to download a new version of the Windows 11 installer and refresh USB media. Users can also opt to download just the ISO if desired.
