Microsoft has acknowledged issues stemming from its June security update affecting the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) service on various Windows Server systems. The update has hindered the proper functioning of IP refreshes, a crucial component for managing network devices automatically in Windows environments.
This problem impacts multiple versions of Windows Server including 2016, 2019, 2022, and the upcoming 2025 model. After installing the update, many users reported that their DHCP services failed to respond. One affected administrator shared on Reddit that their 2016 server crashed within 30 seconds following the installation of the specific update, requiring a rollback to resolve the issue.
Historically, DHCP problems have plagued Windows users, with similar incidents reported over the years. In past instances, DHCP servers would stop functioning unexpectedly, necessitating a full system restart. Additionally, earlier updates had caused different disruptions, such as input failures with keyboards and mice, and authentication issues with domain controllers.
Microsoft is actively working on a fix for this DHCP service disruption and has promised to release more information shortly. In the interim, users experiencing these issues are advised to uninstall the update to restore network functionality. The company has also been addressing other Windows Server problems reported earlier in the year.
