accessibility feature support,
a fresh feature to import autoinstallation settings for template-based custom provisioning, and new standard installation options such as Default selection (previously known as Minimal) and Extended selection (previously known as Normal).
Moreover, the Ubuntu Desktop Installer now seamlessly supports guided ZFS installations without encryption, along with the already available option of encrypted ZFS installation. These features, though, are still being considered experimental in Ubuntu 24.04 LTS.
Ubuntu 24.04 LTS also ships with a brand new graphical firmware update tool known as Firmware Updater, built-in Raspberry Pi 5 support, Netplan 1.0 for cutting-edge network management, and Mozilla Thunderbird as a Snap as default.
Other eye-catching changes incorporate “Year 2038” support for the ARMhf architecture. The vm.max_map_count
has been magnified to 1048576 for enhanced gaming. Patches against the recent XZ backdoor, fortified security improvements, and automated enrolment of ADSys Active Directory Certificates have also been included.
The Ubuntu App Centre also witnessed numerous new characteristics and enhancements for superior package management. Apt priority for the “proposed” repository has also been integrated into Ubuntu 24.04 LTS to avoid compromised installations when users receive possibly unstable updates from the “proposed” repository.
Underneath the surface, Ubuntu 24.04 LTS is loaded with an updated toolchain that features GCC 14, GNU Binutils 2.42, GNU C Library (Glibc) 2.39, Java 21 as standard, Python 3.12 as the main Python version, PHP 8.3, Ruby 3.2, LLVM 18 as standard, and Go 1.22 as standard.
