In a notable week at Computex 2025, AMD unveiled its latest flagship workstation graphics card, the Radeon AI PRO R9700. This announcement positions AMD to enter the professional AI market, aiming to offer a versatile card capable of supporting various applications from CAD/CAM to AI model inference, leveraging its cutting-edge RDNA 4 GPU architecture.

Introduced during AMD’s Computex keynote, the Radeon AI Pro R9700 marks a rebranding of AMD’s Radeon Pro line, emphasizing AI inference capabilities. Unlike previous offerings, this new card boasts advanced matrix (tensor) math operations, enhancing its competitiveness against NVIDIA and other AI accelerators. With previous models catering to either high-end or budget markets, the R9700 serves as a middle ground, combining affordability with performance.

The R9700 features the same Navi 48 GPU found in AMD’s consumer Radeon RX 9070 XT, manufactured using TSMC’s 4nm process. It targets a competitive value proposition rather than simply seeking the fastest performance, a strategic shift for AMD.

Key Specifications of the Radeon AI Pro R9700:

  • ALUs: 8192 (64 CUs)
  • AI Accelerators: 128
  • Boost Clock: 2.92GHz
  • Peak Throughput (FP16): 95.7 TFLOPS
  • Memory: 32GB GDDR6
  • Memory Bus Width: 256-bit
  • Total Board Power: 300W

The R9700’s significant memory capacity of 32GB GDDR6 is designed to meet the demands of AI workloads, which often require extensive memory due to high parameter counts. This new architecture also supports advanced matrix operations and introduces precision options relevant for modern AI applications.

AMD is promoting the R9700 as delivering up to double the performance of its predecessor, expected to encourage multi-GPU configurations for larger AI tasks while still being functional as a standard graphics card. It comes equipped with four DisplayPort 2.1a outputs, catering to traditional graphics needs as well.

Following the release of Intel’s new Arc Pro B-series video cards and NVIDIA’s RTX Pro 6000 series, the R9700 will face tough competition. However, AMD aims to differentiate itself through a better value proposition, particularly regarding its GDDR6 memory costs.

Pricing for the Radeon AI Pro R9700 has yet to be announced, with speculation leaning towards a competitive range based on its predecessor’s launch price of $2499. The official launch is anticipated for July, providing clarity on its market positioning and potential impact on the workstation AI market.
